Y&R Today Recap: Cane Steps Up for Malcolm While Matt Clark Captures Sharon and Noah
Claire finds Holden lost in thought and notices he is shaken by the revelation that Malcolm is his father. Holden admits his life feels upside down and says he cannot stay composed the way he normally would. He feels guilty because Malcolm is sick and he cannot help the way he wants to. He also resents all the years he lost because the truth was hidden from him. Holden reveals he has been carrying baseball gloves and a ball hoping Malcolm might someday play catch with him. Claire understands his pain and says she knows what it is like to long for a father relationship. Holden then confesses he is angry at his mother for keeping the truth from him. Wanting a break from the emotional chaos, he asks Claire to have lunch with him. He admits he knows she has kept distance from him and does not fully trust him. Claire accepts, giving Holden a brief moment of comfort during the family crisis.
Lily is desperately discussing Malcolm’s condition and fears there may be no one who can save him. Cain overhears enough to realize Malcolm is seriously ill and asks what is happening. Lily is annoyed at first and questions why Cain suddenly wants to help. Cain says their past does not matter right now and that he wants to be there for her. Lily admits she is terrified because Malcolm needs a compatible bone marrow donor. She explains that the obvious family matches failed and they may have to rely on the national registry. Cain immediately offers to be tested to see if he could be a match. Lily is moved and says she cannot ask him to do that. Cain insists she is not asking and that he simply wants the chance to help. He says Malcolm matters to Lily and the family, so helping him is the right thing to do.
In Las Vegas, Nick is alone in the bathroom struggling with pills and clearly battling addiction. He takes one anyway and then reacts with disgust at himself. Outside, Adam uses Chelsea’s phone to warn Sharon not to trust messages from Nick or Adam because Matt stole their phones. Reese arrives at the suite and Adam, Chelsea, and Nick pressure her for information about Matt. Reese claims she came to help but says they have treated her like a criminal. Adam grabs her arm and demands the truth, warning he can make life difficult for her. Reese asks what she would gain by betraying Matt since helping them could endanger her. Adam promises protection while Nick says they can make sure she never sees Matt again. Reese says that kind of freedom has a price. Nick tells her to name it as the tense negotiation continues.
Meanwhile, Sharon and Noah keep driving into a remote area following instructions they believe came from Nick. Sharon complains they are in the middle of nowhere while Noah grows increasingly uneasy. They do not realize every message was part of Matt Clark’s setup after he stole the phones. Sharon notices they are now out of cell range, which makes the situation even more alarming. Noah worries Nick and Adam may go too far in their desperation to bring Matt down. He also blames himself because his relationship with Sienna helped bring Matt back into their lives. Even so, Noah admits part of him still wants to see Matt fall. They finally arrive at an abandoned fueling station that feels wrong immediately. Sharon suggests finding a signal before going farther, but they hesitate too long. Matt suddenly climbs into the back seat and coldly tells them they have arrived in hell.
