Nathan desperately pressured Lulu to secretly send Rocco out of Port Charles immediately because he feared Cullum would murder the teenager if he discovered Rocco was the shooter. Lulu resisted because she worried Dante would become suspicious, not realizing Dante was already preparing for a devastating confrontation over her role in the cover-up.

At the same time another major misunderstanding was unfolding between Sonny Corinthos, Rick Lansing, and Ava Jerome. Rick secretly met with Ava at the Jerome Art Gallery to arrange a romantic surprise for Elizabeth and planned to use Ava’s connections to create an extravagant art-themed weekend getaway. Unfortunately Sonny interpreted Rick and Ava’s private meetings as evidence of betrayal and conspiracy against him. Sonny became increasingly paranoid after Ethan Lovett reported seeing Rick whispering with Ava at Metro Court Gardens. Although Rick’s intentions were completely innocent, Sonny convinced himself his brother was plotting something dangerous behind his back. Sonny summoned Ethan and ominously warned him that once their next move started there would be no turning back. Ethan initially believed Sonny planned to target Jen Sidwell for revenge over Holly’s suffering, but the situation actually seemed focused on Rick instead. The narrator feared Sonny might even order Ethan to kidnap or interrogate his own brother over a harmless misunderstanding involving an art purchase. Meanwhile Sidwell remained a looming danger after targeting James West and threatening Sonny’s family while grieving Marco Rios’s murder.
